3. If you could ask Extension Administration one question, what would it be?

Fall means football. Thinking in terms of football, a team is better able to rise to the challenge and work together for a successful season when the organization has recruited the best talent they can for each of their 'skill' positions, each of the team members knows his or her assignments, the game plan is well conceived, and everyone is able to execute. How is Extension managing these key issues of 'the game' in these days of 'free agency' and the 'salary cap'?
When the electric went out, and our educators were either out of state or at Farm Science review, i felt our response to the public was too slow. There should be something in place to immediately put out press release regarding food safety, how to handle down trees/limbs, what to do if EAB might be seen in downed limbs. etc, i feel we missed a great opportunity to be seen and heard in the many counties throughout the state that were affected by this storm. What can we put in place so that if something like this were to happen again there would be an immediate response, whether or not we had educators available to implement it?
How can you cut administrative costs and oversight burden by 50%?
How will Extension Administration better support urban counties in the next three years?
When are conditions going to improve?
How are the responsibilities of the impact leaders going to be accomplished now that extension is not filling this position?
Why is there such a large disconnect with what the county personnel needs (direction) and what the state direction is?
How will extension be financed in struggling counties
Would you consider spending some time in the county if you don't have recent (in the past 12-24 months) county experience?
Given our current state budget reductions and the probability of future retirements, are we looking at creating a new organizational structure that is closer to the university goal of fewer, but better paid faculty and staff.
Why can,t state administration get its act together?
How are we positioning ourselves for the future in the face of continued budget cuts?
What are you doing to position OSU Extension as a major source of climate change inforamtion?
Why hire more administartive staff. We can't afford them and they are already asking the counties for cost share to stay alive. If signature programs are going to work they need uniformity and evaluation devices which are not present now. We were to have a package for each program ,where are they. Why not use the currant resources we have to carry out these tasks. Do signature programs really help my county with the resources we have to do them? Could we form teams to do them for desired counties rather than trying to do programming. Do you feel a widing gap between county and state policy ? Why or why not. By the way many counties do not have the ability to watch your communiques do to local firewalls since the counties had to find their own IT support. What is the solution?
What changed or new plan have you to address the growing number of ANR vacancies?
No question comes to mind at this time.
When can $ be put into technology for OSU Extension. Take a look at our web pages, we need additional support to be first-class for our clients in this area. Our current tech team is stretched to the limit and gives every ounce they can to help us. We are missing out on the most up to date way to stay in touch with our clients.
Are there any plans for helping Extension professionals gain admittance into prospective educational programs offerred at the university (OSU)?
It seems County Extension Directors are now responsible for many tasks that were previously handled at either the regional or state levels. Is there any plan to increase the "stipend" amount for county directors since the current amount in no way reflects the amount of responsibility being handled by these individuals?
What strategie(s) do you recommend to urban counties to be successful in maintaining an Extension prsence? (i.e., marketing, cost recovery, programming, networking, etc.)
Why can't more financial support be given to the counties? Our outreach is through the counties but Extension is non-mandated so counties cut their support when costs in mandated offices are increased.
Who is the person we talk with in admin regarding office issues.
With the ever changing economy, is there job security for support staff that have been with the organization less than 2 years?
With respect to the M.S. requirement for Educator positions, why has the line been drawn and other options not being explored?
Are any steps being taken to bring salaries into agreement with corporate salaries -- to retain great personnel in the field?
