Lack of job security for support staff. They seem to be the first place to cut when budgets are reduced. Wouldn't it be more equitable if ALL levels of the organization would take equal cuts (reduction in appointments or even small reductions in salary)? More money could be saved by cutting appointments of individuals with higher salaries than cutting support staff who do not earn as much. If support staff are really as important as we are told that we are, why does it seem that we are always the first to be cut?

We are running out of time. The clock is ticking and we don't have the final plan. The more days Extension does not take action to initiate the plan, the more we are danger of running our finances in the red. We know there are going to be reductions. It's time to start the process.

The personal impact on an organization whose PRODUCT is impacting people's lives. The strength of any business or organization is it's people...creative, innovative, problem solvers, passionate, enthusiastic, and more. In order to weather budget reductions, it will be critical for Extension to harness that strength to find the BEST ways to enhance Extension's effectiveness in impacting people's lives. We can not afford to become just another place on the web for peoople to get information. We must provide the product people want in all businesses today -- help, answers, education, information with a personal touch on their time that means CREATING an effective delivery model that successfully combines relationships with technology to BEST serve the citizens of Ohio.

Budget reductions are difficult. It is made more difficult by the way the reductions are handled. Lack of planning. The economy was slowing down 2 years ago. Usually it takes awhile for it to impact various funding levels (fed, state, local). Planning for a reduction should have taken place before actual cuts were announced. It could have been implemented after cuts were received or shelved if no cuts were given. Lack of communication. This is a big organization if you do not want personnel discussing the impact of the funding cuts then communicate the correct message multiple times and in multiple ways. Ambiguity of communication also makes it more difficult. Reading the "navigational notes" does not give a clear picture of how the budget reductions will impact anyone's career.

...Not knowing. We can plan around almost anything once we know what is going on. Decreased programs, and lost staff are devestating to an office and community, but you adjust and go on the best you can, hoping it will look up in the future. It is very difficult to plan programs and motivate our volunteers when we do not know if the programs we (and they) are planning will even be possible.
