Illegal housing discrimination occurs when one or more of the following occurs based on a person's race, national origin, color, religion, sex, or if they
have children or a disability:
1. Refusing, discouraging or charging more to rent an apartment or buy a home.
2. Discouraging a person from living where he or she wants to live, often by steering him or her to another apartment, complex or neighborhood.
3. Refusing or discouraging the acquisition of a loan to buy, refinance, or access home equity through tactics that include charging more or providing less favorable terms than the market
would otherwise dictate.
4. Refusing, discouraging or charging more for home insurance.
5. Refusing to make a reasonable accommodation or refusing to allow a modification to make an apartment more accessible for person with a disability.
6. Predatory lending: unfair, misleading, deceptive or fraudulent loan practices.
