You are being asked to take part in a research study to test if an online library tutorial helps improve research skills of students enrolled in SPAN 4010. We are asking you to take part because you are a student of this class. Please read this form carefully and ask any questions you may have before agreeing to take part in the study.
What the study is about: The purpose of this study is to test if an online library tutorial improves student research skills. You must be enrolled in SPAN 4010 to participate and be over 18.
What we will ask you to do: If you agree to be in this study, we will send you an online survey. The survey will include questions about you, your research skills and whether the library tutorial helped you to improve your research skills. The survey will take about 5 minutes to complete.
Risks and benefits: There is the risk that you may find some of the questions about your research skills to be sensitive. Furthermore, email is not a secured method so there is a potential for your answers to be intercepted when you submit the survey. You will benefit by being able to use the library tutorial designed specifically for your class. Your answers will be confidential. The records of this study will be kept private. In any sort of report we make public we will not include any information that will make it possible to identify you. Research records will be kept in a password protected file; only the researcher will have access to the records. Your name will be removed from all data records at the end of the semester. Taking part is voluntary: Taking part in this study is completely voluntary. If you decide not to take part or to skip some of the questions, it will not affect your grade, or your current or future relationship with your professor. If you decide to take part, you are free to withdraw at any time. As this assignment is for credit, if you decide not to take part or do not complete the survey, an alternative assignment will be made available.
