1) If applicable, when will your child be eligible for kindergarten?

Currently the Hudson Public Schools offers a 2.75 hour/day kindergarten program, free of charge, to all Hudson residents. When the Kennedy Middle School opens in September 2013, we hope to offer a full-day kindergarten program to all families who are interested.

The full-day kindergarten sessions will most likely be held in your child’s neighborhood school. The school day for the full-day kindergarten would be the same length as the day in each of our current grade 1-4 schools, approximately 6.5 hours.

The state of Massachusetts requires that districts offer at least 425 hours of kindergarten to students. This works out to be an average of 2.5 hours per day for the school year. Eighty percent of school districts in the state offer full day programs for kindergarten students.

The Hudson Public School District is committed to providing full-day kindergarten at the lowest cost possible to families but will have to charge tuition in order to provide a viable program. Tuition will be determined using a sliding scale based on family income.

Please indicate your feeling regarding a tuition based program. Based on other districts, we are estimating tuition could be between $2500 and $4000 per year.

Would any of the following reasons prevent you from enrolling your child in a full-day kindergarten program?

It is the policy of the Hudson School Committee that kindergarten students living more than ½ mile from their assigned school will be eligible to be transported to their school by bus.

In order to develop an effective transportation plan please indicate how your child would come to and from school, if the full-day program was located in your neighborhood school.

Please check the box that indicates how your kindergarten student would be transported to and from school.
