Kern County Teaching American History (TAH) Proposal

The Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) in partnership with the Kern County Museum, California State University Bakersfield, Bakersfield College, the Library of Congress, and the American Institute for History Education plans to submit a Teaching American History (TAH) proposal to fund a three-year professional development program for elementary and secondary teachers in Kern County.

This innovative grant opportunity is voluntary and will provide exciting professional development opportunities and experiences.

Highlights of the Project
• Twenty teachers will be selected through an application process and receive free travel, room, and board to field trips each year (Washington D.C, Philadelphia, and west coast historical sites)
• Mentoring by experienced grade level coaches and professional historians for teachers of U.S. history.
• A cadre of trained teacher-leaders prepared to both contribute to their field and expand the reach of the grant through local professional development presentations.
• A standards-aligned and research-based professional development program will be provided by history scholars and expert teacher-leaders.
