Creating Awesome Web Content: 4 Rules From The Webinar

create awesome web contentWe’ve all heard that integrating social media is an important business strategy in the new media economy. The web and social media provide powerful, cost-effective ways to reach customers, but it’s not always obvious how to leverage the platforms they provide. On top of that, creating fresh, compelling, relevant content can be a lot of work!

That’s why Zoomerang teamed up with PR Newswire to present the free Webinar, “Staying Top of Mind through Creative Content Generation.” Sarah Skerik moderated the webinar, which featured Douglas Karr, CEO of DK New Media, and John O’Connell, Senior Public Relations Manager at HNTB.

Watch the 48-minute-long webinar here, or read below for some general rules to help you create interesting, relevant web content.

Rule 1: Stop Selling

Your website is a great way to interact with your customers. Think of it as a platform to engage, not to sell. Showcase content that provides value, captures attention, and builds authority, and your customers will be hooked. Dollars signs will follow.

Rule 2: Feed the Senses

Most people won’t read all the text on your website, if you can even get them to read any of it. How else can you entertain, inform, and interact with them? Include audio, video, and kinesthetic material, as well as text.

Rule 3: Repurpose, repurpose, repurpose!

Creative, compelling web content does not grow on trees. Make your life easy by repurposing as much as you can. Create an online survey about a topic of interest to your cutomers. Use survey results to create a whitepaper. Then turn that white paper into an infographic or presentation. Turn your presentation into a blog post, and your blog post into a webinar (or your webinar into a blog post, like this one!). Then do it all over again!

Rule 4: Be a Relentless Self-Promoter

It might feel a bit unnatural to promote yourself, but if you don’t think you’re awesome, who will? Press releases, social media accounts, and key influencers all should be leveraged for good publicity.

Remember in the cases of influencers and social media that the door goes both ways. If someone is retweeting your content or commenting on your content, return the favor! And don’t forget to get the most mileage out of your content by sharing it via StumbleUpon, Reddit, Digg, etc.

Creating exciting, compelling web content can be a daunting task, but there are lots of tools, tips, and tricks out there to help you succeed. You don’t have to do it alone, and we’re here to help!
