I've been asked to take part in an employee survey - there are about 12 of us - is it truly anonymous?

Default "Anonymous" survey

Depends upon who's asking. If it's your employer and there's only 12 of you, it may be hard to disguise everyone's identity.

Default Anonymity

Margaret is right, it's tough to assure anonymity in small companies. It usually comes down to the info given to you by the survey administrator and how much you trust the administrator. Did the survey administrator give you details about who will have access to the raw data? to the open-ended comments you make? If your company normally uses any sort of monitoring (Internet use monitoring, IP tracking, etc.), did they address this issue? Did they tell you how the results will be used?

If you evaluate the situation and conclude that your company intends to use employee survey results to make improvements within the company, the best thing you can do for them is to answer the survey honestly.
