Dupont Zooms across Europe in six languages
"If youre looking for something thats affordable and easy to use, theres nothing better than Zoomerang."
Floris de Klerk,
Member of HR Europe IT Team,
Dupont Iberica SA
Company Background
Dupont faced the challenge common to many multinational corporations: how to offer surveys in the local language, without it becoming a daunting process, requiring multiple surveys running at different times.
Results
By using Zoomerang zPro and its skip logic feature, the team at Dupont is able to send surveys to their 3000 staff members, and have them respond in their local language. The use of skip logic means that Dupont now can use one survey to reach its two specific target audiences manager and employees and across multiple languages, all in one easy-to-analyze survey.
At Duponts Human Resources group in Spain, their IT team uses Zoomerang zPro to survey their multinational staff across six languages.
Floris de Klerk, part of the HR Europe IT team for Dupont, has been using Zoomerang zPro since late 2002. Previously he wasnt using any survey tool, then another department in Dupont told us about Zoomerang, he says. His first impression of the online survey tool was that, it was easy to use, easy to understand and offered a lot of possibilities.
From zero surveys to quarterly data immediately
De Klerk now uses Zoomerang to survey about 3000 employees across Europe asking for staff members opinions regarding the HR department and its services.
Once the survey is deployed, the responses start appearing almost immediately. I can send out a survey, and an hour later I can start to see responses, says de Klerk. Most of the responses are returned in about 48 hours. If people havent responded after two days, they probably arent going to, he says. On average he receives about a 35% response rate.
Range of languages offers special challenges
Dupont operates in six languages in Europe: English, French, Dutch, German, Italian and Spanish. Using individual surveys in each language would require six times the effort and analysis. The HR team wanted to be able to send out one survey available in the various languages in which it operates and return one set of results.
Skip logic allows targeting in local language
Zoomerangs skip logic feature skipping respondents to a specific set of questions depending on their response solved Duponts linguistic challenge, allowing de Klerk to create one survey for multiple language groups.
The first question in the quarterly survey asks the recipient to select the country in which they work. The answers are in the appropriate language, so that the responders select from I work in the UK or Je travaille en France etc. The response to this question moves them to the appropriate language group.
The second use of skip logic is to distinguish the surveys two specific audiences, as they have a different set of questions for managers and employees, de Klerk says.
Through the use of straightforward, well-placed questions upfront, Dupont is able simply and quickly to divide the responders into two categories, managers and employees, then again into one of the language groups, so the recipients are able to answer questions in the language of their country.
Ask globally, speak locally
With Zoomerangs skip logic feature, Duponts HR group is able to send out one survey yet receive responses in any of the languages in which it operates in Europe.
De Klerk has been so pleased with Zoomerang that hes already mentioned it to another department in Dupont. I told them, if youre looking for something affordable and easy to use, theres nothing better than Zoomerang.
